Lithium-Ion Battery Mechanism

Observe ion migration and electron transport through charge and discharge state cycles.

ANODE (OXIDATION)

LiₓC₆ → C₆ + x Li⁺ + x e⁻

Lithium atoms stored in graphite lose electrons (oxidation) and release Li⁺ ions into the electrolyte border.

CATHODE (REDUCTION)

Li₁₋ₓCoO₂ + x Li⁺ + x e⁻ → LiCoO₂

Cathode remains in a lithium-deficient state, ready to receive incoming ions.
